I wouldn’t even know where to begin when it comes to telling you the amazing experience that was New York Fashion Week. So I compiled a small collection of my favourite photos from the week (aside from my regular New York street posts) including meeting Bill Cunningham to previewing Oscar de la Renta's collection before it hit the runway. Thank you again to Tumblr for providing this incredible opportunity. I hope you enjoy.
I had the privilege of attending my first Marc Jacobs show yesterday, Marc by Marc Jacobs at the Armory. The menswear (edited in the video above) was sophisticated and chic but still very youthful, playing with different fabrics and textures. Redwood, burnt orange and shades of brown seemed to be the key colours for the F/W 2011 season. I loved it! Check it out above and share your thoughts below.
I was finally able to attend my first menswear show at NYFW today at Milk Studios and it did not disappoint! It was of none other than Patrik Ervell, New York based menswear designer. The collection had an almost futuristic sailor feel to it, check it out for yourself after the jump.
Meanwhile, the show was littered with well dressed men but two that caught my eye were Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist and Michael Stipe of R.E.M. I managed to capture a little moment between them before the show, as I felt they were a bit unapproachable…well at least for me. I loved the little cassette tape necklace Mr. Stipe was wearing, great little personal detail.
Another day of New York Fashion Week, another night of surreal introductions. Last night, Simon Doonan, Creative Ambassador-at-Large of Barneys invited all 24 Tumblr bloggers to dine with him at Barneys’ Fred restaurant. I’ve alway admired Mr. Doonan for his creative mind and passion for his work and I’m happy to say, he lived up to all my expectations. Truly a charming man and terribly well dressed.
He was joined by Barneys newly appointed Women’s Fashion Director, Amanda Brooks and during a little Q&A, had something to say about what 2011 holds for men’s fashion.
I had the pleasure of meeting Michael Hainey last night, the Deputy Editor of GQ. It was an honour to speak with him and hear his thoughts on new media, specifically GQ’s new Tumblr. His style was everything you would expect from a GQ Editor but with a little added quirkiness that made it his own.
I’ll be en route to New York City in about 2 hours to cover Fashion Week for Tumblr and Men In This Town. Watch this space for lots of exciting posts from the streets and runways of New York. For a more random, behind the scenes look, follow Men In This Town on Twitter.
